Goran Visnjic’s Emotional Message Honoring Jon Fong

Actor GoranVisnjic was shaken up by the news about Jon Fong’s death. Namely, Jon Fong was the technical advisor on the TV Series ER who prepared Visnjic for the role of Luka Kovac. The series premiered in 1994 and launched the careers of both Goran Visnjic and George Clooney.

Goran Visnjic (45) permanently moved to America when he received the role of Luka Kovac in the series 'Emergency Service' or better known as ER. Visnjic's character was added to the cast at the beginning of Season 6 (1999) following the mid-season 5 departure of leading character Dr. Doug Ross, played by George Clooney.

As one of "ER's" on-set medical advisers, Dr. Fong has been helping the show’s directors to ensure the authenticity of the scripts, sets, and sounds of "ER" since July 1998. Apart from checking scripts for accuracy, drawing maps that indicate the proper placements of medical props, and choreographing the show’s famous trauma scenes, Jon Fong also orchestrated every medical procedure on the show.

As Goran Visnjic explains, each episode of "ER" required one week of preparation in addition to one week of filming. Dr. Fong trained Visnjic and the other actors how to perform medical procedures and discuss medical topics.

His work with actor Goran Visnjic involved much more than simply telling him what to do and say.
At first, I thought it would be too personal to write here about something as private as this, but then I gave it some thought and realized that Jon would’ve probably like it. In fact, he would probably laugh and tease me for that, said Goran Visnjic. I have to admit, I simply can’t believe that he is no longer with us. There are no words to describe this unselfish man, a true friend, and extraordinary teacher – wrote Goran Visnjic who played Dr. Luka Kovac from 1999 to 2008, in nine seasons of the series.

- My wife wrote something on her IG that I feel shows who Jon really was, how big of an impact he had in my life and paints a real picture... “He was teaching them all how to pretend to be a doctor, but more than that he made my husband a different person. He created from a clumsy bear, a Kung Fu warrior. He was always there for anything we needed. A true friend. Jon, you will be missed big time. Goodbye until we meet again and thank you for everything. I’m sure they needed you up there to teach and spread joy... Goodbye, my friend - says Goran Visnjic in his post.

Goran Visnjic remained close with some of the people that were part of ER’s crew, including Jon Fong.  Over the years, Visnjic and Fong had become great friends. Actress Linda Cardellini, who joined the crew in the 10th season as Dr. Samantha Taggart, thanked Goran for his kind words, which meant a lot to everyone.

Interview on the set of "Crossing lines", season three

Interviewer : A Polish cinematographer once said that acting is more about hiding than showing. Goran Visnjic : I guess that’s true. Interviewer: Your role in "Crossing lines" is a perfect example of this. Marco joined the special unit of the International Criminal Court as an expert in abductions, but kept his privacy and that will remain hidden until the end of the season. Goran Visnjic: It is interesting that you raise the topic at this moment, because today we were shooting a scene with Elizabeth (Mitchell), which has a lot to do with what we're now talking about. Heroine Elizabeth - Karine talked about Marco's sister, who has been kidnapped. She knows very well that he accepts this too personally. Just two hours before starting the filming, writers sent us some new directions for the scenes.
