Goran Visnjic is Finally Filming the General

Antun’s film "General" was presented with 4.2 million by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre HAVC as financial funding for long length feature films. Produced and directed by Antun himself, this drama produced by Cyclops film is a biography of Croatia’s former general Ante Gotovina, which follows the life of the retired Croatian Army general from his childhood days to the present. The lead role was given to no other but Croatia’s most famous actor Goran Visnjic who has appeared in many Hollywood projects.

Throughout this year, the feature film about the life of General Gotovina will be filmed in Zadar, Croatia. The estimated time for filming is 150 days. Around 130 days of the shooting is planned to take place in different locations of the Zadar’s County. Goran Visnjic and Antun came with the idea to shoot a film about the general after following the trial events in Hague. In 2012 Goran Visnjic traveled to Hague not only to provide support for general Ante Gotovina but also to prepare himself for the role.

In a recent occasion Goran Visnjic said that Gotovina was in charge of the Operation Storm which liberated of his grandparents’ village. For years now the film’s director Antun has been preparing this major project. His vision is to tell the story of his Homeland War through the character of General Gotovina, all nicely packed in eight episodes that last for fifty minutes. He plans to show some of the most important battles and operations, such as Flash and Storm.

The project is supposed to be recorded through all four seasons, and apart from Croatia the filming will also take place in France and Morocco. The film opens with some of Gotovina's first memories, and it ends with operation Storm, all the way to The Hague, or as Goran Visnjic puts it, until the time when our veterans sacrificed their freedom, ending up in wheelchairs, another world, or in prison.

It is difficult for the Homeland War to find space in our entire history, as tight at it is. Because it is a film about the life of a soldier, as Gotovina unquestionably is, for sure there will be a lot of action scenes, "said Goran Vishnjic in an interview for gophercentral. There will be a lot of war scenes and for that director expects help by the Croatian Army, which is for a reason proud of their efforts. The movie is supposed to cover all seasons and places, from his childhood on the seaside, through the African desert, to a very important period of his life spent in Colombia. His whole rich life is full of joy and suffering.

Interview on the set of "Crossing lines", season three

Interviewer : A Polish cinematographer once said that acting is more about hiding than showing. Goran Visnjic : I guess that’s true. Interviewer: Your role in "Crossing lines" is a perfect example of this. Marco joined the special unit of the International Criminal Court as an expert in abductions, but kept his privacy and that will remain hidden until the end of the season. Goran Visnjic: It is interesting that you raise the topic at this moment, because today we were shooting a scene with Elizabeth (Mitchell), which has a lot to do with what we're now talking about. Heroine Elizabeth - Karine talked about Marco's sister, who has been kidnapped. She knows very well that he accepts this too personally. Just two hours before starting the filming, writers sent us some new directions for the scenes.
