American actor with Croatian origin Goran Visnjic was born on September 9, 1972 in the small town of Sibenik, Croatia. After appearing in some home films and theater plays, he was spotted by an American producer who invited him to come to Hollywood and audition for a film. In 1997 he landed a role in the movie "Welcome to Sarajevo", which was directed by Michael Winterbottom. His next big role was in "The Peacemaker", where he starred opposite George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. In the meanwhile, he continued playing in Croatian theater productions.
In 1999, Goran Visnjic got the role of his lifetime, when he was casted to play the character of Dr. Luka Kovac in the mega popular series "ER". This role brought him fame and recognition, gathering a huge fan base, and turning into one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. In 2001, he starred in "The Price of Silence", where his partner was Tilda Swinton. Growing up he didn’t have a lot as his father was a bus driver, and his mother was a seller at a grocery store. Nevertheless, he and his brother remember those childhood day with great joy and warmth in their hearts. Now, Goran and his wife Eva Visnjic, with whom he has three children, are trying to give back to the community and make a difference in this world regarding animal rights.
Both of them are active member if the fight against animal cruelty, and they regularly donate funds for animal shelters. He is president of the “International Fund for Animal Welfare” and the "Friends of Animals" organization. Visnjic has also helped rebuild several hospitals in Croatia, and provides assistance to a number of small animal rescue organizations in Southern California. He and his family currently live in Los Angeles, California, but they use every opportunity to visit their home country.
